Google Assistant

Use Google Assistant or Google Home to control your Tesla.

Prior to June 2023, Tessie used a native Google Assistant voice app to interact with your Tesla directly. Sadly, Google shut down voice apps on June 13, 2023.

Using Tessie with IFTTT is now the best option for interacting with your Tesla through Google Assistant and Google Home. Please note that IFTTT requires a paid subscription.

Link IFTTT and Google Assistant

  1. Open the Google Home app and go to Settings.
  2. Tap Works with Google > IFTTT.
  3. Sign up or log in to IFTTT.

Get a Tessie access token to use with IFTTT

Open the Tessie app and tap Settings > Developer API > Generate access token.

Create your voice commands

  1. Visit ifttt.com/create.
  2. Select If This > Google Assistant > Activate Scene.
  3. Enter the activation phrase you want. For example, "climate".
  4. Select Then That > Webhooks > Make a Web Request.
  5. For URL, enter: https://api.tessie.com/VIN/command/start_climate?access_token=TOKEN
  6. Replace VIN with your vehicle's VIN and TOKEN with your developer token generated above.
  7. For method, select GET.
  8. Tap Create action > Continue > Finish.

You can now say "Hey Google, activate climate" to start the climate in your Tesla.

You can replace "start_climate" in the guide above with any of the commands below.

If Google isn't recognizing your phrase "Hey Google, activate <x>."

This likely means you're using 2 different Google accounts. Here's how to fix it.

  1. Long press the Assistant app icon on your phone and go to Explore or Settings.
  2. Under Settings, look at the email being used.
  3. In IFTTT, reconnect Assistant by pressing Services > Google Assistant > Remove Service > Connect and use the same account from step 1.
